With margins in retail, warehousing and logistics shrinking by the year, it’s more important than ever to streamline your operations so that you can work smarter, and more efficiently.

Pallet wrapping machines provide the perfect solution to free up human resources. An average pallet takes 4 minutes to stretch wrap by hand. Multiply that by the number of pallets which require wrapping and you’ll be able to calculate your approximate time saving per day. Multiply that by a year and - well; you get the idea.

And that’s not all, Robopac (part of the Aetna Group) who are one of the industry’s leading pallet wrapping machine manufacturers indicate that their pallet wrapping machines can:

So when you combine those savings with the labour savings, it’s easy to see that investing in pallet wrapping machinery can very quickly pay for itself, making the purchasing decision a very easy one.

Benefits of automated pallet wrapping machinery:

Pallet wrapping machines provide a wealth of benefits, but the largest can be observed with semi-automated or fully-automated machines as they reduce the need for manual inputs.

Just some of the benefits include:

  • Faster operations

  • Improved consistency

  • Improved security & reliability

  • Improved safety

  • Improved staff morale

  • Freed up team members, enabling them to focus on other tasks

  • Reduced waste

  • Reduced load damage

  • Reduced consumption of shrink wrap or stretch films

  • Reduction in injuries (cuts, trips, back-injuries, etc) and operator fatigue

  • Reduced costs

Types of pallet wrapping machinery

The industry has a wealth of options so your first step is to identify the type of machinery you need. This will normally be determined by pallet volumes, speed, costs, wrapping behaviour, features and how much human interaction you require.

In terms of human interaction levels, consider if you need:

  • Fully-automatic machines

  • Semi-automatic machines

  • Manual machines

  • Self propelled robots

In terms of wrapping behaviour, your main choices typically fall into:

  • Turntable machines: the pallet rotates as film is applied

  • Rotary arm machines - the pallet remains stationary, and the arm rotates around the pallet, applying the shrink film as it goes.

  • Orbital or horizontal wrapping machines - normally used to shrink wrap products prior to being placed onto a pallet or directly onto a lorry

In terms of features, there are too many to comprehensively list which is why it’s a great idea to speak with our team who can help identify the best solution for you. However, just some of the features available across different machines include:

Platform options:

  • Low-profile turntables - Reduce bumps during loading
  • Loading rollers - Ideal for automated production lines
  • Shaped-turntables - For easy pallet jack loading

Speed options:

  • High speed rotary rings, arms or turntables - Improves efficiency whilst balancing speed vs risk of damage to goods. Some machines can perform up to 40 rotations per minute making them ideal for fast-paced environments
  • Number of reels - Increase wrapping speed & performance whilst reducing material consumption

Shrink Wrap & film options:

  • Reel size - Greater reel size capacity reduces the frequency with which you need to reload your shrink wrap reel. Starter machines will typically accept approximately 20kg reels of shrink wrap
  • Pre-stretch carriage type and variable tensioners - Choose from FRS, PGS, BGS_P, and more to achieve the perfect pre-stretch values to maximise performance and reduce costs. Pre-stretch from 150% to up to 400%
  • Clamps, sealers, cutters and threaders - Found in automated systems, these help seal ends, start new reels, tuck the last tail of wrapping into the load securely, etc.
  • Interchangeable wrapping materials - Some machines can accept different types of wrapping materials including standard polythene stretch film, paper or self-adhesive tape

Additional protection options:

  • Top sheet dispensers - Choose from inside or outside topsheet dispensers to add an extra layer of protection from dust or dirt, and even a layer of custom branding or information
  • Corner applicators - Adding L-shaped corner protectors help spread the load at corners to reduce any risk of crushing or damage during impacts in transit, and further improve load stability
  • Strapping, banding or roping - Pallet strapping adds extra load security to reduce tampering and improve load stability, especially of heavier objects such as bricks
